Obama's botched attempt to force American school children to promise to help him shows again how he is out of touch with average American family values. The politicizing of public school classrooms outraged parents and teachers.
Had the president stuck to the standard back-to-school address instead of attempting to promote his (socialist) agenda, he would not be in this mess. Instead, the White House is in crisis communications mode to stem the public backlash.
First, the administration announced that it was taking back the "help the president" letter and changed it to what kids could promise themselves. Second, the White House took the unprecedented step of releasing the speech text 24 hours in advance, supposedly so parents could be reassured that its contents were safe for young ears.
But the real reason the White House is releasing the speech on Labor Day, in my opinion, is to dump it on a holiday, in a media blackout, when people are at the beach and barbecues. The political scheme is for the 24 hour new cycle to wash and clean the anti-Obama rhetoric by Tuesday, when people are back to reading papers and watching TV.
The public outrage stems primarily from Obama's dictatorial style of forcing children to support him. Who can't help but think of the Soviet Union during the Cold War?
Also, the country's educational system is based on state rights, so the federal Government's intervention in such an extreme way -- putting a TV speech in a classroom -- is un-American.
In addition, although I agree with the president's overall message of encouraging kids to take personal responsibility, study hard, and stay in school, the concept that the federal government can teach - rather, dictate - this lesson is offensive to parents.
If anyone is going to have an influence in a child's education and future, it is a parent or teacher. What mother or father thinks a TV speech by the president would be more effective in encouraging their children than their own family lessons?
Of course, this latest uproar would never have risen to such a level if President Obama had not just angered the American public for nine months straight by governing as a socialist – especially in pushing for an overhaul of our health care system -- after winning the election as a moderate.
We Hillary supporters knew he was a Socialists yet everyone thinks he ran as a moderate. Obama told Joe the plumber that he planned to redistribute the wealth. People need to do their research.

This is true, of course, but even scarier to me is his whole view of the world and of himself, and the actions and plans that arise from his own belief system. During the election, and the rock star Europe Tour, it was clear that he values the idea of making the masses his personal followers - this is not an American value. The way in which he personalizes everything, making it about him, about his "historic" so-called presidency clearly implies a lack of understanding of regular, Americans, who are too busy trying to care for their families than to worry about O's place in history. The sense of entitlement and narcissism is so strong and so internalized that he's oblivious to it. (What? ... You mean there's a problem with America's children blindly following me? ) Remember during the primary and GE - how most of those rabid college kids were crying and falling prostrate before the great O? Most of them couldn't answer simple questions about government or, for that matter, about Obama. They knew slogans. Their actions were based solely on emotion. And this was OK with Obama - better than OK, it was very valuable to him, as it furnished him with an endless supply of young people who were always working to pull in other young people to the O cult. Kids want to do what their peers do. They want to think as their peers think, dress as their peers dress, like who and what their peers like.
Obama's method is effective - it's just totally UnAmerican.

I've heard that this ridiculous move is just a smokescreen to take attention away from the eligibility court case that will be heard that day. Makes sense that O-ineligible would do something stupid to hide something evil.
