The race from race: Dems rebut Carter (Yahoo) 09-16-09

Looks like some of the Dems, at least, decide to put away the race card, and are ready to shut Jimmy Carter up.

The race from race: Dems rebut Carter

Jimmy Carter is 84 years old and three decades removed from the White House, but he still has the power to make Democrats run.
Away from him, that is.
From the White House to Capitol Hill on Wednesday, Democrats raced to distance themselves from the former president’s claim that racism was behind Rep. Joe Wilson’s “You lie” outburst and other attacks on President Barack Obama.
“Listen, he’s the former president, and he’s entitled to his point of view,” said Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.). “I personally believe President Obama and his administration are focused on the issues, and I agree with that.”
“I don’t see this as a racial issue,” added Sen. Jim Webb (D-Va.). “There are a lot of people upset about how we on the Democratic side can engage like we have been, and there’s a lot of anger out there. So, I don’t see it as a racial issue.”
“I didn’t agree with it,” Sen. Kay Hagan (D-N.C.) said of Carter’s remarks.
Congressional Democrats have no interest in starting a racial argument that could turn off swing district voters whose support the party will need if it plans on keeping its grip on Congress in 2010. And the current occupants of the White House made it clear Wednesday that they have no interest in bringing race back to the fore of any discussion about Obama.
“The president does not believe that criticism comes based on the color of his skin,” White House press secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters in his Wednesday briefing. “We understand that people have disagreements with some of the decisions that we’ve made and some of the extraordinary actions that had to be taken by both this administration and the previous administration.”

But CNN/MSNBC (the BO channels) are playing this as a racially motivated outburst.  Maureen Dowd also said she believed it was racially motivated.  I just think that behind the scenes the WH is promoting this view even if they are now trying to distance themselves from Jimmy Carter.

Stamp!  I totally agree.

I wish Maureen Dowd would finally realize that her opinion is about as irrelevant as it gets.

I'd like to dedicate a song to MoDo, regarding her thoughts on ANY issue - "Here's a Quarter, Call Someone Who Cares."

I don't believe a word that comes out of the White House. They use the race card when it suits them. This was one time, publiclly, it didn't suit them.

They saw the protests. They know people are fed up. This time, it backfired on them.

Also in agreement here.

The so-called msm is no more . . . it is not officially the "fringe media".  They do not report the news anymore . . . they are not relative; therefore, they are on the fringe.

I wonder how many more voters the messaih and the idiot dems will be losing?

I really think the idiot-in-chief will singlehandedly cause the dimocrats to shrink in party size HUGELY.. and this is only getting started.

I think the race-baiting reached as much as it could last year.. it is now backfiring.. on the messaih AND the media.. the more they race bait.. the more people will resent it.. and the media will say that too is racism.. which people will resent even more.. it will be a feedback loop.. until the MSM is completely irrelevant and the messaih and dims are completely out of office (unless they stop this nonsense!)

I think this kind of statement does a disservice to not only the people of the USA who by the way elected a black man and frankly a black man or a woman or a Hispanic they have to accept critisim .
I am very curious to see how BO is treated compared to BC.  As of now BC had more critism then BO.
