NEW YORK — Former US president Bill Clinton paid tribute Friday to his wife, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, calling her the "best public servant our family has produced."
The Clintons and their daughter Chelsea were greeted by thundering applause at the fifth annual meeting of the anti-poverty and anti-climate change Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) at a New York hotel.
Bill Clinton, who served at the White House between 1993 and 2001, has scheduled his foundation's meeting to coincide with the United Nations General Assembly.
Speaking of his wife in laudatory terms, the former president said the top US diplomat is so busy at the United Nations that Friday's closing CGI meeting was "the first chance I have had in a week to see Hillary."
Hillary Clinton responded in kind, saying: "I am very proud of my husband, and I think what he has invented and brought to life here is extraordinary."
They are both extraordinary, and it's apparent that they have so much respect for each other.
