Proof again that HRC is more than just words.

Clinton boosts US investment in Northern Ireland

US investment in Northern Ireland has been boosted by high-powered business meetings with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

She was in Belfast for trade talks with Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster and Employment and Learning Minister Sir Reg Empey.

She said later: “Companies across the globe will not stand still in their quest to seek out profitable investments, and Northern Ireland must therefore continue to inform decision makers that this region remains an excellent proposition for US companies.”

While these are, of course, exceptionally challenging times for Northern Ireland and indeed right across the globe, the US continues to be a key trade and investment partner for us

A focus of her attention was a newly-formed working group set up to allow US business leaders to capitalise on the “skills, education and work ethic" of the province’s workforce.

In underscoring her desire to support the peace process through economic co-operation, she cited growing international investments in Northern Ireland, including £4.4 million by US healthcare communications provider Navinet.

Mrs Clinton met the working group, which has been brought together by Declan Kelly, the US economic envoy to the province, during a visit to Queen’s University.

She said: “Declan Kelly has wasted no time in getting to work on encouraging trade and investment links with the US.

“While these are, of course, exceptionally challenging times for Northern Ireland and indeed right across the globe, the US continues to be a key trade and investment partner for us,” noted Enterprise Minister, Arlene Foster.

And noting that it is not a one-way street, Mrs Clinton said: "We often talk about investment in Northern Ireland, but we have also got thousands of jobs created back in the States because of Northern Ireland investment.”

Excellent article Bword. Coincidentally, I was recently reading a history of the Celtic people, and in describing Ireland in terms of societal factors, the book noted how many companies from various countries set up businesses there. Apparently, there's a huge contingent of savvy techno people and experts from many fields in that country. The book noted how rich the Irish history is in terms of higher education - universities & colleges.

Anyway, didn't mean to digress (still excited about KWayne's thread about Hill kicking O's butt in terms of approval stats.) Hillary continues to prove herself to be a powerhouse, accomplished in many areas. Wanna bet O's admin leaks some negative info about her now? Some non-truth or half-truth fabricated to ensure he remains the more popular of the two.

I like the way Hillary mentioned that these jobs created in Northern Ireland are creating jobs for people here in the USA. I think she should emphasize this more, because where I live the jobs go overseas and that's it.

Totally understand and agree with your point.  I think she does a good job with her balancing act, and should continue to emphasize how reaching out to others can be beneficial to all.

Hillary Rocks.  I have missed so much with moving I only rely on the computer for my news that way I don't have to listen to much commentary.
