NEW ORLEANS (Oct. 18) - A justice of the peace in Louisiana who has drawn widespread criticism for refusing to issue a marriage license to an interracial couple says he has no regrets about his decision.
"It's kind of hard to apologize for something that you really and truly feel down in your heart you haven't done wrong," Keith Bardwell told CNN affiliate WAFB on Saturday.

Bardwell, a justice of the peace for Tangipahoa Parish's 8th Ward, refused to issue a marriage license to Beth Humphrey, 30, and her boyfriend, Terence McKay, 32, both of Hammond.
Bardwell's actions have elicited reactions from some top officials, including Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, who called for Bardwell's dismissal.
"This is a clear violation of constitutional rights and federal and state law. ... disciplinary action should be taken immediately -- including the revoking of his license," the Republican governor said Friday.
Bardwell has not returned repeated calls from CNN this week. But he told Hammond's Daily Star in a story Thursday that he did not marry the couple because he was concerned for the children who might be born of the relationship and that, in his experience, most interracial marriages don't last.
"I'm not a racist," Bardwell told the newspaper. "I do ceremonies for black couples right here in my house. My main concern is for the children." Bardwell, stressing that he couldn't personally endorse the marriage, said his wife referred the couple to another justice of the peace.
Humphrey and McKay received their marriage license October 9 from another justice of the peace in the same parish. They have reached out to an attorney to determine their next step, Humphrey said.

Yeah I guess he should be concerned about the children of interracial couples because they could become President of the USA someday.  Both sets of my parents were products of interracial Marriages back when it wasn't legal in a lot of states to be married to someone from a different race.  Both of my grandparents remained married until death do they part.  I have two sons who are involved with white women and I don't care.  I don't like the one girl but its more because she is not a very nice person not because she is white.

This fool is an idiot

Now, this judge is an example of a real racist. Those obot idiots at the Daily Kos should sit up and pay attention so they can recognize real racism the next time they see it instead of applying that slur to people like Darrah Murphy and Amy Siskind.

What a load of crap you are an elected official.  You do your freaking job they didnt ask yoiu for you opinion on their marriage they asked for a marriage license.  Mr Justice of the peace you are not a preacher or priest they didn't ask for your counseling.

If LA has a state review committee for county and state judges, as some states do, I hope the couple files a complaint, and then proceeds from there to sue this guy's a$$ off. If he can't be compelled to do his job fairly and without bias by mere morality, ethics, and constitutionality, I'll bet he can be compelled to do the right thing if he risks losing money.

What is happening in this country? People in positions of power just doing as they please without regard to laws, the will of the people, or ethical standards?! Are they're following the example of POTUS?

Sometimes I feel like I went to sleep in 2006 and woke up in 1962. What the hell is happening in this country!!!! This is appalling. MY GOD! My son's first long term g/f is black and is still a dear friend *like a daughter to me* If they had got married one day I would be jumping for JOY!! She is a marvelous young woman and boy am I proud of her. My best friend has adopted four mixed race children *she adopted one and then found out he had three siblings all sent to different families and then set about adopting the other three too* These children too are family to me.. that whole family is mixed race...I have never had to think one time that in this day and age any of them might be harmed by this type of behavior until lately and I am afraid for them with all the b.s. that is going on.....Nobody EVER better talk to a one of them this way... Everyone has these examples these days but, my point is that I find men like this OFFENSIVE In the extreme. If anyone deigned to speak this way to someone I love I would be very tempted to do violence. I would find it hard not to knock him up side his empty head. We don't live in his world anymore and he better wake up and smell the coffee because the days when we limited ourselves to who we can love are OVER.

Where has this man been???? *SHOCK* We have same sex couples, we have all manner of races marrying and dating and being best friends and god knows we are all better for it. We are smarter, we are more loving and we are enriched.

We all have moved on, we all have a HUGE BENEFIT in our society from having enriched our lives by being INCLUSIVE in this day and age.

This narrow minded freak has no idea what he is costing people with his dinosaur attitude. I am worried for HIS children. He's probably tried to teach them his own fear filled attitude. Hopefully they did not listen. Honestly, I hope he doesn't have any children...

I hope this man is facing legal charges for breaking the law. What an ASS!!!

*picks up jaw off the floor* I swear I thought everyone who thought this way was dead or had opened up their eyes a long time ago. My heart hurts for those I know who might still in this day be hurt by someone's words ...someone like this IGNORANT man.

I was also thinking that in relation to the Balloon Boy and his family.  After all, if the fake president and Congress don't have to follow the law and be decent people, why should they?  I don't think like that, of course, knowing God will kick my @$$ if I get out of line (look up "jot or tittle" from Matthew 5:18).  The question is, why don't other people know that or worry about it?

It is mind bogging.

How do people with such wonderful judgment become "justice" in the first place!! Glad to see the Governor and the AG of Louisiana are asking for his resignation. NAACP has joined in that today.

Not sure if an elected person can be taken off the office by the Governor, but seems that should be doable.

I thought this was a joke when I first heard about it. When I found out it was true I was absolutely SHOCKED and let me tell you I no longer shock easily.

The guy is an aboslute, utter moron who should be ran out of his job!!!!! God help us all - we ARE living in the twilight zone!!!!
