Watching President Obama address a jobs summit Thursday, Democratic media consultant Mandy Grunwald, who worked for both Bill and Hillary Clinton, had a thought.
"After spending the entire administration trying not to be Bill Clinton, the president could now use a dose of Bill Clinton's empathy," she told DailyPolitics' Walter Shapiro.

Bill Clinton's empathy was real. He grew up poor and he remembers what it was like. Obama hasn't got a clue. Yeah, I know 0 told that story about his mom getting food stamps while she was in college. However, I question whether the story is even true. If it is, Mama was milking the system because college students aren't eligible for food stamps-- if you have enough $$ for college, then they say you have enough $$ for food. And if all else failed, she had her well-to-do parents who could and did help her out.
Of course, a president doesn't have to experience poverty or unemployment firsthand to show empathy toward those who have lived through those experiences. But 0 just doesn't get it. Never has, never will. It isn't in his psychological makeup.
