Hillary Clinton and David Miliband Cement Special Relationship at NATO Meeting (UK Telegraph 12/05/09)

No earth-shattering news. I just thought this was cute. I've been sick with H1N1 all week, so I needed some cuteness in my life.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/6732159/Hillary-Clinton-and-David-Miliband-cement-special-relationship-at-Nato-meeting.html

The US secretary of sate and British Foreign Secretary appeared delighted to find themselves sitting next to each other for a meeting of foreign ministers at Nato headquarters in Brussels.

There were warm greetings, a few laughs and Mrs Clinton appeared charmed by Mr Miliband's witty asides.

Perhaps he was joking about a magazine article last month, in which Mrs Clinton praised his youthful vitality.

When a Vogue journalist joked that she had a crush on Mr Miliband, Mrs Clinton replied: "Well, if you saw him it would be a big crush. I mean, he is so vibrant, vital, attractive, smart. He's really a good guy. And he's so young!"

Mr Miliband, 44, has been equally complimentary about his opposite number in the past, saying Mrs Clinton, 62, is someone who is "delightful to deal with one on one".

He added: "She uses her experience in a very impressive way. She's someone who laughs and can tease, and she's got perspective as well."

With such a rapport, it seems unlikely that the representative from the United Arab Emirates, seated to Mr Miliband's right, got a look in.

It is not the first time US and British foreign ministers have hit it off.

Dealings between Jack Straw and Condoleezza Rice were so good that in 2006 she took time out from her high flying schedule to visit his constituency in Blackburn.

Dear Jen, I'm so sorry to hear you're not feeling well.  Please know that we're all rooting for you to get better soon, and appreciate your wonderful threads!

Want to hear something silly?  We're going on a cruise soon, and our six-digit confirmation number has the digits "H1N1" and also a "5."  I think there's a kind of flu that has "H5N1" as a name, also, and I'm hoping these two coincidences aren't a bad omen!hmm  Taking the flu medication with, just in case.wink

I'm feeling a little better today. You're smart to take meds on your cruise. This is a nasty bug and you don't want to catch it. Stay away from anybody who is coughing.

Thanks for the advice.  Here's a little more advice I found at the CDC website.  I'm not getting vaccinated, but the other stuff is easy:

Preventing the Flu: Good Health Habits Can Help Stop Germs

Fact Sheet

The single best way to prevent seasonal flu is to get vaccinated each year, but good health habits like covering your cough and washing your hands often can help stop the spread of germs and prevent respiratory illnesses like the flu. There also are flu antiviral drugs that can be used to treat and prevent the flu.

1. Avoid close contact.

Avoid close contact with people who are sick. When you are sick, keep your distance from others to protect them from getting sick too.

2. Stay home when you are sick.

If possible, stay home from work, school, and errands when you are sick. You will help prevent others from catching your illness.

3. Cover your mouth and nose.

Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. It may prevent those around you from getting sick.

4. Clean your hands.

Washing your hands often will help protect you from germs.

5. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.

Germs are often spread when a person touches something that is contaminated with germs and then touches his or her eyes, nose, or mouth.

6. Practice other good health habits.

Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food.

Jen, I echo Alex's concerns and well wishes. So sorry you've been under the weather.

The article is cute. I love the ongoing mutual admiration society these two seem to have.

BTW - Alex, thanks for the tips. May I also add a few given to me by our pharmacist:

1) Use mouthwash such as Listerine to kill germs in mouth and throat.

2) Use saline nasal spray to kill germs in the nasal passages.

3) Use hand sanitizer when you can't wash hands to kill germes present.
