Game Change: The Boys Club United Against Hillary (TGW) 01-09-10

Article notes that according to the book, Reid begged Obama to run against Hillary.  Such poetic justice that Reid's poll numbers continue to decline.  That SOB deserves to lose - big time.  No surprise that the party didn't want Edwards (accurately described as phony and shallow) to win the nom.  All the bastards united and conspired to steal the nom from Hillary.  The Democratic Party threw all of Hill supporters under the bus and tried to run over us.  But we had a surprise for them -  PUMA.  The Dems have not yet even begun to realize the consequences of their betrayal of us loyal, long-term, (ex) party members. But, they will.

Game Change: The Boys Club United Against Hillary

New York Magazine has a riveting excerpt from John Heilemann and Mark Halperin's new book -- Game Change: Obama and the Clintons, McCain and Palin, and the Race of a Lifetime.

And it's a doozy! Titled Saint Elizabeth and the Ego Monster, the book excerpt contends that Harry Reid and other Washington insiders secretly beseeched Barack Obama to run against Hillary Rodham Clinton because Edwards was "a callow, shallow phony." And because Hillary was "polarizing." This is not exactly a surprise to anyone who was paying attention, but it's interesting to see it in print.

The people's election, yeah, right.

A shallow phony he was, but that didn't stop John Edwards from uniting with the boys club to defeat the polarizing bitch! Excerpts follow:

The Democratic Establishment agreed that there would be—and certainly should be—a viable challenger to Clinton. The party’s pooh-bahs on Capitol Hill were privately terrified about the prospect of Hillary rolling to the nomination. They feared that she was too polarizing to win, that she would drag down House and Senate candidates in red and purple states; and they worried, too, about Bill’s putative affairs. But while the Clintons themselves regarded Edwards as Hillary’s most formidable rival, there existed a deep wariness about the North Carolinian among his fellow Democrats. In the Senate, in particular, Edwards was regarded almost universally by his former colleagues as a callow, shallow phony. Quietly, the Establishment began a quest to find a different alternative, eventually settling on the unlikely horse that was Obama—with Harry Reid personally, and secretly, urging the Illinois senator to run against Clinton. . .

Many of his friends started noticing a change—the arrival of what one of his aides referred to as “the ego monster”—after he was nearly chosen by Al Gore to be his running mate in 2000: the sudden interest in superficial stuff to which Edwards had been oblivious before, from the labels on his clothes to the size of his entourage. But the real transformation occurred in the 2004 race, and especially during the general election. Edwards reveled in being inside the bubble: the Secret Service, the chartered jet, the press pack, the swarm of factotums catering to his every whim. And the crowds! The ovations! The adoration! He ate it up. In the old days, when his aides asked how a rally had gone, he would roll his eyes and self-mockingly say, “Oh, they love me.” Now he would bound down from the stage beaming and exclaim, without the slightest shred of irony, “They looooove me!” . . .

When Edwards told Obama that he wanted him to make poverty a centerpiece of his agenda, Obama airily replied, Yeah, yeah, yeah, I care about all that stuff. Clinton, by contrast, proposed that she and Edwards do a poverty tour together, even suggested that Edwards would have “a role” in her administration. . .

Wounding though a loss in Iowa would be to Hillary, she might be strong enough to bounce back. The only way to guarantee her elimination would be to take the extraordinary step of uniting against her.

It's about to get even hotter for John and Elizabeth Edwards. I can't say I'm sorry. Next month, Andrew Young - the servile aide who took the blame for Edwards' love child -- publishes his tell-all book.

Freespirit, Thank you for this post. This book and the topic itself will be discussed tomorrow on CBS 60 minutes. I will be switching on CBS after more than a year!!

Mark Halperin of Time is also an author on that book. I am looking forward to tomorrow's 60 Minutes.

Thanks for the info, Sanders. I may actually try to watch CBS myself. I just wonder how this discussion will be treated. I'm not expecting much fairness from the network, but I'm glad some of this info is at least getting out. Hopefully, CBS won't try to counter the truth with lies.

Freespirit, thank you for posting this! I didn't know about the book or the coverage by CBS tomorrow. I will definitely tune in - initially...we'll see how it goes. My guess is that they'll say (not outright probably) that Hillary is still a polarizing bitch. They were terrified of her then and they're terrified of her now. Come on Hillary - run in 2012 and let's get rid of that frickin' bozo that is currently at the helm.

Hillary must still be a threat, or else they would leave her alone. But the obots are still slamming her and so are the Republicans. And they've got to be doing it because of 2012 because nobody's thinking about 2016 yet.

All those Dems are going to pay big time.  I wonder who released the information about Reid's Negro remark.

Jan, they are still bashing and belittling Hillary, and it's coming from both sides.

Reid needs to be treated the same way Trent Lott was............I pray that my neigboring state
sees to it that he doesn't return to government, ever.

LOL.  I love it, Jen.  Yep.  The Karma Cops are about to nail him.
It worries me that Hillary is catching it from all sides.  I am so sick of the nasty shots and hit and runs these smart azzes continually throw at her - and there's never any substance to their criticism.  They just make some smart, snarky comment.  Perfect example:  One night last week, when my husband was watching Oreilly (he knows better than to have the TV set to CNN or NBC when I'm in the room. lol), that obnoxious, whining Dennis Miller made some comment about Hillary having been "cheated on a a lot" - or something to that effect.  Of course, like all wannabe comics who have little comic ability, he laughed his fool head off at his own joke.  I was not listening closely, and missed part of Dennis' comment - I remember zoning in a little when her name was mentioned.  Initially, the comments Miller was making almost seemed to have a positive tone, but, of course, it didn't take but a second for him to begin to ridicule her.  Naturally, Oreilly never called him down.  Never said a word.  That's because he is a self-serving, ego-maniacal, sexist, nutjob who loves to take a jab at the Clintons when he gets a chance.  It's so easy to do, and doesn't require a shred of creativity or intelligence - as evidenced by the caliber of folks actually slamming her.
