The phenomenon that is Sarah Palin seems to be gathering momentum like a runaway train. Mortified Democrats hope she's a runaway train wreck. But Palin's fanatical supporters are convinced she is simply getting to the White House that much faster.
She has made enough mind-boggling public gaffes to sink twenty careers - and grown stronger. Democrats look hopefully to the latest polls, which suggest that, while she may be winning the popularity contest, voters are losing confidence in her as presidential material. Even so, she remains a genuinely threat to the Obama administration and Democratic candidates across the country. It was Palin, after all, who single-handedly derailed Obama's health-care reform bill after her "death panel" accusation. It was also Palin who single-handedly politicized the global warming debate, by pointing to emails she claimed proved the whole thing was a liberal conspiracy in which Democrats somehow played a role. Her relentless mocking of Obama initiatives has emboldened Republican and conservative opposition, which noticed that "Obama bashing" is an effective political tool for winning support without offering any actual alternative solutions.
As a result, for Democrats, defusing this ticking political time bomb is Priority Number One. However, the question remains as to the best person to do this. Joe Biden has a tendency to put his foot in his mouth and could easily do more harm than good. Obama himself cannot afford to attack her directly - that would give her too much credibility. He is also a Harvard Law School graduate and, worse, like Biden, he is man. Palin would take every opportunity to construe whatever criticism he makes of her as evidence of his intellectual elitism and misogynistic streak.
The job falls, therefore, to a woman, and the only woman in the current political arena more powerful than the speeding locomotive that is Sarah Palin...is Hillary Clinton. A criticism of Palin that might sound mean-spirited from Obama would be a clean smack-down from Hillary. As a speaker, when tightly scripted, Palin is a charmer, but her tight skirt and high heels are no match for Clinton's pantsuit and comfortable walking shoes.
The Hurt Locker And when it comes to a fight, Hillary can pack a wallop. She is a hardened political soldier who has crawled through the blood and gore of the Washington battlefield to emerge as the most powerful woman in the United States - if not the world. That is why, during her campaign for the Democratic nomination, her "take no prisoner" mentality made her a formidable rival for Obama. Although she lost, she forced him to acknowledge her 18-million-voter support base. He would not be President today if she had not endorsed him. And she is Secretary of State because of that.
And Obama would be doing Hillary a favor. She isn't exactly thrilled that her job takes her away from the front line of national affairs, often to the point where Americans forget she is still around. She would therefore relish an opportunity to get back in the game and grab some headlines again. She has nothing to lose and everything to gain. If she fails, she simply fades back into her job and moves on with her life. If she successfully neutralizes Palin, it will practically guarantee her nomination as the Democratic Presidential candidate for 2016. Don't rule it out. She is not one to go gently into that good night.
Palin's glass jaw is that she can criticize others, but she does not take criticism well. In the political arena, Hillary can take a world of hurting and come back at you with a ferocity that leaves you breathless.

That is Palin's biggest problem. She can't take criticism at all...much like Obama.
But the comparison is wrong about Palin and Hillary. Palin is a speeding train...Hillary is the Space Shuttle...going as high and as far as she sees fit to go.
I don't want Hillary to play Obama's "pitbull." He wanted the job, let him do it...for a change of pace.

I object to the original premise that it has to be a Dem woman who takes on Palin. If the Dems see her as a challenge, surely they can find a way to respond to her in a way that is respectful and does not appear to be misogynistic or condescending. Hell, when Hillary ran, no one worried about appearing misogynistic - Everyone including MSM, Obama, the Dem leaders, and the Pubs demonstrated great sexism. The gloves were off and the fighting was dirty.
I see this article as another cat fight reference. MSM would love nothing better than to pit these two women against each other. It would provide them with a golden opportunity to level sexist insults at both.

Obama's like a little boy who goes running to his big sister whenever that tough girl in his kindergarten class teases him. "Hill-a-reeeeeeee... That mean old Sarah called me a dummy doo-doo and stuck her tongue out at me again! And when we were in the sandbox, she stepped on my sand castle! Waaaaaahhhhhh!!!! You gotta do something! She picks on me ALL the time!"
Hillary has better things to do with her time than get involved in what amounts to a sandbox dispute between two five-year-olds.

LOL that's what I used to say on 2008 that he would go to Hillary every time he is in trouble or some women pick on him. He should know better because he would hate to be called out to defend whites against other African Americans because he were black. It hasn't happened in two years and it isn't going to happen now. Second of all she took SOS for forgein policy and because she wanted to remain uninvolved with politics No Fund Raising and No Politican bashing lol When are people going to quit trying to get these two women to fight. Again the use of cat fight to describe two females fighting is incorrect its the male cats that fight not the females
The author of this article is a PR Strategist and Pop Culture observer. His view of Palin "Express" is highly overrated. He only need to look at the CPAC vote to know that even the conservatives do not rank her high.
The electorate was indeed hopeful for her, or at least holding judgment, until after her recent appearances in FOX News and her speech at the Tea Party convention in TN. Then, they decided... and her rating plummeted immediately after.
That said, Pres.Obama is most certainly in doo-doo and Palin has highlighted it further (without helping herself much because she could not distinguish herself as the better alternate).
Hillary is in the SOS job to show her best work as an executive, strategist and diplomat, and disprove to the nation's skeptics that she was just a coat-tail holder. She has proven exactly what she has set out to do doing a world of good in the meanwhile, and without talking US Politics, she has changed her ratings tremendously for the better.
What a contrast one year between what Palin has achieved and what Hillary has achieved!!
Pres.Obama and his far left following will continue to be self-serving and want the last ounce from Hillary. Hell no! They do not deserve it after the way THEY played FOUL CAT amongst Dems in the caucuses to get their chosen One elected.
Rise, Hillary, RISE!!!

I have chosen to stop comparing them. Sarah will run or she won't I am concerned with only Hillary and right now Team Hillary and Team Sarah have the same enemy and should work together.
HMG, I have discovered that it does not work that way from the side of Team Sarah. So, why bother. It has always been one-sided from the Repub side. I am not going to get suckered into that anymore. Team Sarah pushes extremes and if you do not subscribe to the extreme conservative view, forget it!
Many "new" Hillary-friends showed up in HCF towards late May 2008 and pretended to like PUMAs and next thing you know they were pushing GOP contact information and promoting McCain in the site. We did not realize but Plan B got majorly stoked by the Repub infiltrators.
I think there is a limit to what we can do in the name of "common enemy". The enemy is not a person rather the policies being espoused. BOTH EXTREMES are equally bad.
Most of the country is in the middle. It is like the bell curve. The normal distribution holds. Yet, both ends push us extremes.
And, yes, we have to compare ALL potential candidates. It is not about female/male. Just about experience and readiness. I just do not see it in Sarah Palin, and I see it in boatloads in Hillary Clinton. So, that comparison is something that we cannot fail to make. A lot of people say you support Hillary. Sarah Palin is a woman, so support her. Well, I do not see it that way. In fact, I do not see Sarah Palin supporting women! Or, she would have supported one of the two women running in Texas, instead, she is supporting Rick Perry.

Yes Sanders I remember those days but PUMA reached out to the PUBS there is a PUMA because of the Democrats. I know they overwealmed both HCF and HV but we must remember that we also met good people like Bufflo boy and of course Optix has been with us from the beginning. I remember being infilitrated by both the McCain people and the Obama people. PUMA reached out to McCain which forced Obama to deal with us. I am saying I am not personally comparing them unless I have to. The cat fighting has to stop. Now I have been to Conservatives 4 Palin and was surprised that Hllary bashing got you banned. I have to say that women need to get it together and remember Hillary's women aren't always kind to Sarah. She got bashed for having that baby instead of an abortion I was horrified. That is a horrible thing to say.
Yes, Buffalo Boy and Optix never pretended to be anything but Repubs. But there were many who did and only in the last six months or so we are figuring out that they were ultra conservative to begin with. Some HCF members' conservatism and questioning Hillary as a "progressive" has really surprised me beyond belief. Some are outright hateful of the Clintons and that has been even more surprising. I do not mind it at all that there are Conservatives or Liberals around, just so long as they do not pretend to be what they are not. In particular, I do not like it when someone claims to be a Hillary supporter when they are not... or even Sarah supporter when they are not. I just do not like pretense of any kind.
Sarah made a choice and that is a fact that Team Sarah does not acknowledge. Amnio is part of the choice process. If she did not intend to make a choice she would have never gotten that process done as the process in itself is dangerous. I wish she would clearly say that she made her choice, and that she is pro-choice and would prefer that the choices go in one direction over the other.
There are many issues to consider in selecting and endorsing any one candidate. The extent to which they are honest about what they did is just one of the many factors. The extent to which they have learned from their experiences and are able to handle the same situation significantly better is another. On many levels, I am disappointed in Sarah Palin. Even more, I am disappointed in her supporter base in Team Sarah that is so presumptuous that they do not care to engage independents in the center. My conclusion on Sarah and even on Team Sarah is all very recent.
I am not a social conservative they all want me to be. (And, I am not a liberal) No, I am not at Conservatives4Palin - I never joined there. I am simply disappointed in these forums. Team Sarah does not like me because I am straight forward about being a Hillary supporter and everyone knew that. They asked my position on life-choice scale, and I said pro-choice and then I was asked what my religion is and of course, I am not Christian. Then they wanted me to have all kinds of personal info on my profile. Well, that's not going to happen. So, I am no longer there. Not for bashing anyone - not Hillary, not Sarah. But Team Sarah came to view me as a Democrat which is surprising. Anything other than total social conservative and Christian was not acceptable. So be it.
Again, my conclusion on Sarah is recent. And, it is after extensive and long-term assessment. I think many have gotten there in their own way, and it simply took me longer.
I hope good leaders emerge from all sides who are moderate and can channel their energy as well as of the nation and their followers in positive direction at every possible opportunity. There is a dire need for this and a total dearth of real leadership in both parties. Too bad there is no centrist party as such.

Choice is something that both sides of the abortion issue needs to understand. I am so sick of aborton being used to divide women that I am no longer stating my beliefs on this issue. Both parties use ths issue to divide women. I understand what you are saying about people not liking you because you support Hillary. That's how it is when your African American and a Hillary supporter/PUMA people think you have some sort of mental condition. 50 Cent the rapper will tell you how Bill O Reiley called him a pin head because he supported Hillary during the Primary.
The Palin folks are not doing her any favor, imo, by going extreme right. On Daily Puma recently, one of the Sarah Palin groups featured a statement by Ann freakin' Colter. I didn't click on it, because I wouldn't read anything Colter writes. I have never cared for her, but after the statements she made about the 9/11 widows who pushed for investigation of the white house's handling of the matter, I think she's just plain irrelevant. I know she stood up for Palin, and was glad to see it. She also said she'd vote for Hillary before McCain, as I recall, but we know that was meant as an insult to McCain. Colter has always treated the Clintons with contempt, making smart ass, insulting jokes about them. She's on the same par with Maureen Dowd, Imo - about as slimy and anti-women as it gets.
I haven't joined any of the Palin groups, and rarely read them. I hope they'll have the good sense not to become too extreme right. Either way, I don't plan to participate in any Hillary V. Palin throw down. Nothing to be gained by it. There's also nothing that MSM would like better. If it did come down to Hillary v. Palin, MSM would try to interpret any and every comment made by either as some kind of joke - or they would make jokes about these two women, as they did in 2008. Meanwhile, some male candidate would suddenly appear, MSM would sing his praises as they did Obama's , and try to undermine support for both Hillary and Palin.
I believe that we would be remiss in not speaking out against sexist treatment of Sarah by MSM or by anyone, for that matter. I feel the same about any woman in politics. If a woman deserves to be criticized based on some real issue, there should be no objection to such criticism. It's fair for a woman candidate's qualifications, competence, and other relevant qualities to be reviewed and critiqued (just as it is fair for any male candidate). But we must be ready to speak out against sexism and misogyny, regardless of the target - even if we don't like the politics of the candidate targeted.

freespirit, I agree. We will stand together against sexism. Assessment on qualities is fair and expected and does not map to being sexism. I just do not want to see everything being called sexist, same as we didn't like everything being called racist. That said, there will be plenty of opportunities to call MSM on their shenanigans, I'd wager!
