Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said the Pakistani government has been warned that if a terror operation like the failed Times Square bombing were to be successful and found to be originated in their country, “there would be very severe consequences.”
Clinton also acknowledged Pakistan’s increased cooperation in the war on terror, but said the U.S. wants and expects even more from the Muslim nation.
The interview was conducted in Washington Friday by “60 Minutes” correspondent Scott Pelley for a report to be broadcast this Sunday, May 9, at 7 p.m. ET/PT.
“We’ve made it very clear that if, heaven-forbid, an attack like this that we can trace back to Pakistan were to have been successful, there would be very severe consequences,” Clinton tells Pelley. The car bomb that fizzled out in Time Square last week was planted by Faisal Shahzad, a naturalized American citizen who was born in Pakistan and says he had terrorist training there.
Clinton says Pakistan’s attitude toward fighting Islamic terrorists has changed remarkably. “We’ve gotten more cooperation and it’s been a real sea change in the commitment we’ve seen from the Pakistan Government. [But] We want more. We expect more,” says Clinton.
Since the relationship with Pakistan turned around, the results are encouraging she says. “We also have a much better relationship, military to military, intelligence to intelligence, government to government than we had before,” Clinton tells Pelley. “I think that there was a double game going on in the previous years, where we got a lot of lip service but very little produced. We’ve got a lot produced. We have seen the killing or capturing of a great number of the leadership of significant terrorist groups and we’re going continue that.”
Hillary was on Meet the Press last Sunday, so this will be two weeks in a row we get to see our girl on the tube. I don't think that has happened since her campaign.
Thanks, Jen. I was unable to catch either broadcast. Glad to get an update. Hillary continues to be asked about the irony of becoming SOS to the fellow Dem candidate with whom she fought so valiantly (my words - not theirs - lol). Also it seems that BO is still given more credit in this regard than he deserves, with news people acting like he really was a magnanimous soul to be able to get past 2008, and appoint Hillary. He was not the one who had anything to "get past." He was the one who tried to slander Hillary and Bill Clinton, accusing them of being racist. Now, I don't expect anyone who enters the race for presidency runs their campaign like a Sunday School teacher - including Hillary. But, Obama's campaign was just downright dirty - with lies about Hillary, the race card, the sexism, the refusal to call off his attack dogs when they slammed every person who supported Hillary, and in some cases, resorted to physical violence. Additionally, it was his campaign helpers which included crooks, liars, and thugs, who committed all manner of irregularities at the caucus elections, threatening Hillary supporters, lying to them about the polling place, all sorts of dirty dealings.
I said this - which we all already know, to say that it should not have been a huge stretch for Obama to "get over" the campaign and the tough fight. He was not vilified in the way that Hillary was, especially given the total adoration of MSM. But, for her to have put aside the terrible treatment she received at the hands of Obama and the DNC, to work for the man, shows more class, more grit, more concern for country, and more just plain guts than Obama has or will ever possess.
And while we're recalling the sh** storm that was the 2008 primary, lets also recall how "pampers" as Jen calls BO (which totally cracks me up, btw) whined like the little wimp he is if anyone even asked him a damn question that required an answer more complex than ...." er, well, yes we can. We're uniters.
Hillary deserves credit - BO deserves to be put out of office.
