Chelsea Clinton's multimillion-dollar wedding in New York state this weekend is a stark contract to her parents' nuptials, which took place in their living room before eight guests.

Former President Bill Clinton married Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in their Fayetteville home more than 30 years ago, Fort Smith TV station KHBS reported.

“It's a nice contrast to see how people begin and where they grow up to be," Clinton House Museum visitor Martin Bergman said.

Museum curator Kate Johnson said Bill and Hillary were very private when they held their ceremony in 1975.

"I think it's very characteristic of them that they're humble people,” she said.

Chelsea's wedding, though much larger, will maintain a degree of privacy as well.

“The 400 people that are invited are Chelsea’s friends and not necessarily those of the president or the secretary of state,” Johnson said.

Plans for Chelsea’s wedding have been in the works for weeks. Hillary, on the other hand, bought her wedding dress the day before her ceremony at Dillard’s for $53, Johnson said.

The total price tag for Chelsea's wedding comes in at more than $3 million, which works out to about $6,000 a head.

Each to their own circumstances.

Got to add though, Hillary's wedding dress may have cost her a lot less.. but wow, she looked gorgeous and I have no dollar number adjective for how she looked!

While a smaller do is more to my taste, I think it's lovely that they're going all out to give their daughter a swanky wedding. They have been more than generous in giving of their time, talents, and money to this country and to the world. Bill has demonstrated great selflessness in the assistance and support he has provided those in need. Hillary has always put the needs of others before her own. Chelsea has been a model child - loving and supportive of her parents, respectful of their positions, conducting herself in an appropriate way, and possessing the judgment to apply discretion in her dealings with the public. She's a gem, and they have a right to be proud of her.

They deserve to be able to give their daughter the kind of wedding she wants. I hope the media won't make a big deal about the cost and/or extravagance. It's would just be in bad taste.
