US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton used her Pakistan Independence Day message on Thursday to highlight seriousness of the threat caused by the floods but hoped that the Pakistani nation would overcome this crisis.
“The damage is serious, but I know Pakistan will rebuild. Together, you have overcome significant challenges,” she said while noting that in the past few weeks, Pakistanis and partners from many countries had worked to protect people and homes from the floods that swept through so many areas.
In her message, Secretary Clinton included a quote from Mohtarima Fatimah Jinnah who once said that the story of Pakistan was a story of “the ideals of equality, fraternity and social and economic justice”.
“Since gaining independence in 1947, the people of Pakistan have been writing that story, one day at a time,” Secretary Clinton observed.
“And the Pakistani people will continue to write the story that began 63 years ago.”
She assured the Pakistani nation that in their effort to rebuild their country, the people of the United States were committed to standing by them.
