Studies show that women are more effective legislators than men. Now, women are also going to prove how effective they can be at getting past the historic declines in representation they suffered last week.
How? Through The 2012 Project, which is hosting a media call today about what’s next for efforts to increase the number of American women in political office. The 2012 Project is a national, nonpartisan campaign, based at the Center for American Women and Politics at Rutgers University that is encouraging women 45 and up to run for Congress and state legislatures. The connection to redistricting comes from the knowledge that more open seats are created through that process than at any other time and open seats are unique opportunities for newcomers to make gains.
Those on the call will include its founder, Mary Hughes, CAWP’s director, Debbie Walsh, and former Republican National Committee co-chair and Ohio’s premiere female in Republican politics, Jo Ann Davidson.
