Zinat Karzai, wife of Afghan President Hamid Karzai, takes part in a ceremony to mark the International Women's Day on Sunday, March 8, 2009 in Kabul, Afghanistan. It was a rare public appearance by Afghan first lady.
A great point was posed by Lynsey Addario today, while being interviewed on CNN..
Zinat Karzai is an educated woman (Here is her page on wiki Dr. Zenat Quraishi Karzai). Why is she not a greater role model to women within the country? Great question.
Why is Pres.Karzai keeping her hidden at home further perpetrating the notion that women have no role outside the four walls of their home?
I hope she comes out and becomes a greater role model to all women within Afghanistan.
Excerpt: Afghanistan's First Lady is so mysterious that most Afghans, even if aware of her existence, do not know her name. Zenat Karzai, the wife of President Hamid Karzai, lives such an anonymous life that she goes shopping alone in Kabul while her husband is surrounded by 16 American bodyguards and rarely leaves the capital for fear of assassination.
Things have not changed much at all. She has been out of public life.
