WASHINGTON — Senator Kirsten E. Gillibrand said Saturday that she and other sponsors of a stalled 9/11 health bill had won new Republican support for the measure and intended to try again to pass it before the end of the 111th Congress.
Following the Senate’s vote to repeal the ban on gays serving in the military, Ms. Gillibrand, Democrat of New York, said Democrats intended to resurrect the health initiative in the coming days after falling three votes short of breaking a filibuster against it earlier this month.
“We have the votes we need,” Ms. Gillibrand said. “We have indications from several Republicans that they very much want to vote for this bill.”
The $7.4 billion measure is intended to provide medical care to workers and others who had become ill as a result of being exposed to toxic debris and fumes at the site of the World Trade Center attack in 2001.
Congratulations to Sen.Kirsten Gillibrand. She has put in a yeoman's effort into this, right on the heels of her work on repealing DADT. She has been an exemplary senator and I am very proud of her.
I am absolutely sure Hillary and Bill are very proud of Hillary's successor to the Senate seat who she and Bill had groomed in her early political career.
Sen.Kirsten Gillibrand has a very bright future ahead.

He was very impressive. He actually got Mike Huckabee to favor the Bill. That's got to tell something. I am really impressed with Jon Stewart; he made me cry that day.
Next day, a lot of media picked up the cause a lot more.. and it was good to see that clip of Shephard Smith. That is indeed a nice change coming from Fox News channel. But I dont expect any major reform of Fox News. [When DADT Repeal passed, FoxNews instead of covering this BIG news, promptly switched to a recorded show of Beck!].
Wonder what it would be like for firefighters to say we dont cover the houses of those who dont vote for this Bill. You know, the same kind of going on strike the way the Repubs are doing. Oh, Yeah, that would not be Christian thing to do, now would it? Actually, what the Repubs in the Congress are doing is not very Christian either. Whatever. It is beyond the pale and disgusting that they are promoting the cause of the rich at the cost to the ordinary human beings and good samaritans like firefighters.
