LOL, I think this was the question the reporter wanted her to take a cheap shot at Sarah Palin, but she declined. Told ya she didn't fit in with the rest of the Obama cabinet.

It is too soon to tell if she will run again. 

And, it is too soon for her to "show her cards", if she is planning on it.  Time will tell.

She will make the right decision when the time comes.

Hillary is always very impressive.  We get substance with her, and oratory with Obama. sigh.

The only possible way I see Hillary running in 2012 - remote as it may be - is that Obama tanks in the polls and his numbers stay a sustained low, kind of like Jimmy Carter.  In that scenario, party "insiders" would likely approach Hillary and beg her to run for the nomination, sort of like with Ted Kennedy, and in that way try and have a chance to keep the presidency within the democratic party.

My thoughts exactly.  And, I have heard this scenario mentioned.  It is plausible that it could happen.  Just a wait and see game right now.

I believe she still Is the best chance for a woman to win the White House for the next couple of general elections. Personally, I would rather see Hillary Clinton there than all other possibilities, but I know there are obstacles... and also that there are some great talented women leaders in the mix presented in that article..

So, let's look at the other options we have been presented.



Sarah Palin (R) - She gave a very good speech past Sunday in her closing remarks on the governor's job. Honestly, all optics aside, I believe it was the correct move politically (the 7/3 statement could have positioned it better).  She has a big important speech coming up in the Reagan Library in the near future, and I will be looking to see how the media and the people respond to her.

She has work to do to get the news cycles before the day begins in Alaska.  Moving to DC may be difficult for her given her family ties. But she is truly a free person right now, so much so that she can charter her own course to the top.  She is unconventional and with the right support structure she can ascend fast.



Sen.Kay Bailey Hutchinson (R-TX) grew up in La Marque, Texas, and attended the University of Texas and UT Law. In 1990, she successfully ran for Texas state treasurer, and in 1993, in a special election held after Senator Lloyd Bentsen resigned to become secretary of the treasury, she was elected to the U.S. Senate. Reelected a year later, and again in 2000 and 2006, she has proudly followed in the footsteps of her great-great-grandfather Charles Taylor, whose signature can be found on the Texas Declaration of Independence, but with one added distinction: She was the first woman ever elected to represent Texas in the Senate. She is seriously running the campaign for re-election in 2010.  A dignified, graceful, professional and courageous person, she is well positioned if she declares candidacy in January 2011. But her conservative social views and unfortunately her age may play against her.. but if Obama trips up more in the coming years, it may actually help her to be the seasoned judgment that runs against the incumbent.


Jennifer Ganholm (D-MI) appeared on Meet the Press in December 2008. She was impressive as a communicator. She has tremendous personal appeal. Likeability factor will play very strongly in her favor. She is from the severely affected Michigan. She has focused on farmers in Michigan and has tried to progress non-auto businesses a lot and that will be a good story. But the fact that Michigan is doing so poor may hurt her. Also you will see that as they did in the Meet the Press, she will be viewed and projected as big government person who was in favor of government bailout of auto industry. Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO)  was practically viewed as an Obama surrogate; she will get backing from Obama suporters. However, more recently, she has also been quite outspoken against the O Administration proposals that are far out left field. So, it is possible that she may also get some resistance from O supporters. She has also made a strategic mistake in not backing Hillary Clinton and Hillary supporters are likely to know that; but will it play out? Unlikely because if she runs and wins the primaries, she will have Hillary's backing. They worked together on equal wage amendment.

A local townhall meeting of Sen.McCaskill from April 2009 shows that she is comfortable in her skin as a female leader - a quality that is increasingly appealing to the professional female who is also quite comfortable as a mom at the kitchen counter.  The fact that she is from MO, the heartland of USA will help her to some degree.

Her run for re-election to senate in 2012 against Jim Talent is indeed one to watch closely because they are diametrically opposed on the stem cell research position.  While her position is really about research, if there is no "market" to implement it given the healthcare plan that is on the table, her position may loose steam right off the gate in her campaigns. This is certainly one to watch, including who supports McCaskill and who supports Talent (and whether Palin campaigns for Talent).


Stephanie Herseth Sandlin (D-SD) in the House is a relative unknown from a state with few electoral votes. But she is a bundle of energy and has great communication skills. She is strongly in favor of growing bio economy and I do believe this will play positively to her messages. The trouble here though, is the fact that she is a strong and very vocal supporter of Global Warming Tax... and that pretty much will take her out quickly, depending upon what happens with the Cap & Trade that is now in the Senate. Besides, the country will want a strong, well experienced hand and may view her as another young person on the heals of a young O administration that has faltered a lot and hugely changed course (mostly for the worse). 


Among the above, I see the best potential in Hillary Clinton.. and the second best in Jennifer Granholm... I will wait to see how Sarah Palin does in Reagan Library and the reaction from MSM and the general public in the coming weeks and may revise my view on this.

I think - if you watched her response to this question in Thailand - that she had a deer in headlights look for just a fleeting second - which tells me that she does have thoughts about running again - she may not have decided when - i.e. 2012 or 2016, but I think we will finally have our chance to have her as our first female President.  Can't wait for that day. 

We should all prepare our lives so that we can clear our schedule when she does run, and so we can help the campaign in any way necessary.    We cannot let it slip away a second time.
