Must see: Cambridge cop says she won’t vote for Obama again after Gatesgate

An amazing clip via Verum Serum. God only knows how much heat she and Sgt. Lashley will take from the “authenticity” police for this; Crowley’s a spectacularly lucky guy to have friends like them. In fact, I’m thinking that beer date at the White House to discuss “tolerance” might not be such a bad idea if Crowley gets to bring Kelly King along. Skip Gates and The One might just learn something.

If you’re looking for postracial America, you’ve found it.

OMG, BuffaloBoy, this made me cry!  What a wonderful show of support.

I can't believe this thread has gotten so few hits.  I wish it could go into the Main Room.  Some people don't venture out too far from there.  This is the first day I've gotten a chance to really look here!smile

I thought of another reason to put these threads on the Main Page - they'll attract more traffic!biggrin

Both of the officers who spoke were great!  They mentioned that there have been racial incidents with a white officer and a black male before, but this was not one of them.  Their whole department looks at their Governor and O completely differently now that they just jumped on the "racist" bandwagon.

This is an example of how rushing to any conclusion is usually the wrong thing to do.  And O is not above the fray on this one.

This entire incident has made me so angry because that poor police officer and the lady who called the police were painted as racist.
What makes me angry is that racist behavior between cops of all races and black male suspects do indeed exist but in this case the white officer did not act racist because if he had there would have been bruises.  The arrest was legitimate because of the way that Gates talked to that officer so frankly in my opinion it is Gates and Obama who should apologise because they are the ones who was wrong.  Next time Gates keep your mouth shut and explain your situation calmly do not start screaming and yelling it doesn't do anything but get you arrested.

That is an awesome clip. Thank you for sharing that.

Both officers speaking supportively were very moving.. especially Kelly King. I am so glad she spoke up definitively and conclusively about not supporting Obama again in the next election.  Yes, as she said, what Obama did was indeed rush to judgment.

Rush judgment betrays a person's presumptions about a given setting/set of people. Is rush to judgment an aspect of racism? Or is it most of it? I believe it is most of it.

I am so happy to see such integrity, loyalty and love among friends when Obama has done wrong. After so many months of people excusing even his most heinous actions this is truly hopeful to see!

There is simply so much damage that comes from this kind of dumb grandstanding by Professor Gates.

Look, I know that real racism is still a problem in this country.  There still is a Ku Klux Klan out there.  Some cops are deep seated racists, and will take advantage of their position to punish blacks at every opportunity.

So now, when some poor black kid is beat up or shot, just for being black, some people are now likely to roll their eyes and deny the truth because some clown like Gates is the one making the accusation.

As was said elsewhere, I highly doubt that Martin Luther King ever envisioned a day when a President of the United States who is black, a Governor of Massachusetts who is black, and a Mayor of Boston who is black would have to stand up and defend the right of a Tenured and Endowed Professor (translation: highly paid and highly pampered) at a University to berate a police officer who was legitimately investigating what had the reasonable appearance of being a possible crime.

To paraphrase William F. Buckley, I would much sooner be governed by the first 400 black people whose names appeared in the Boston Phone Book than be governed by the black members of the Harvard Faculty.

STAMP black folks are playing a dangerous game one that they cannot win. I say scream out against racism but make damn sure that it is real.

Darn, wish I could view, but caught some of it on the news.

Buffaloboy, I agree. I liked Buckley's quote.

Awesome clip!

Saved it.

She is so right. Gates sent up an effective smoke screen to call race into a situation where it wasn't. And Obama could've supported his friend but made no further comment until the facts were known. Obama stepped in it and that "beer summit" was simply for show.

Gates should be ashamed of himself. IMO, he mocked the struggle and the times when race is truly an issue in some cases.

The big story behind the story is Gates is a bigshot Director of an organization about African-American experience, and the Prof of African-American studies in the College of Humanities at Harvard.
If there is one person who may be educated enough to understand the sensitivities and shed the preconceived notions and recognize the ROLE of the person in front of him, that would have been Gates.

Thanks for moving this to the Main Room!

I've probably said this before, but what gets me is that Obama - our fake president - did not even review the basic facts of the matter before COMMENTING ON NATIONAL TELEVISION about it.  I made DAMN sure I knew what I was talking about before commenting ON A BLOG!

Can you imagine if O-dpst gets us into a dangerous international incident with this same lack of judgement, which we've been warning everyone about since, oh, I don't know, LAST YEAR?

I must say, I did read kind of a good comment from Gates from after the "beer summit."  Hopefully he learned something.  Being totally humiliated in public will do that!

Please read this WND story that I posted in a separate thread earlier this morning - a new discovery that Prof.Gates did active fundraising for Obama.

Professor Gates held fundraiser for Obama (WND 7-25-09)

It sheds new light on the facts.

You know, race relations, and gender relations are both the oldest domestic problems we have in America. No doubt about it, it's roots also come from other countries around this world. Racism and sexism is vicious. We've tried to make changes, we've opened and closed doors, not just for minorities and women, but low income peoples. Those programs developed (late 1960's) on colleges across this country instituted ethnic studies, & women's studies, was set to help us attain higher education. In that process over the years many militant leaders were the result. Somehow in all this, there became a feeling that the government owed us, not just education, but a job, housing, health care, gas, cars, food, and the pressures are ever increasing. When you expect the government and police to
take care of your needs, just look to Katrina, just look to 911...........The notion that they in the MAIN BUILDING are better equipped to help those in urban areas, or those in rural areas is an incorrect expectation. They can't hand feed us all.

Acceptance, yes we all need it, but you cannot manufacture it from the MAIN BUILDING, or even Congress, because they are the ones who have been and are opening and then closing the doors to our minds.

Lashley's and King's support & assestment of Crowley was a truth regarding "prejudices." I can relate to their point, particularly Kelly's case of point "I voted for Obama, and will not be doing so again." Obama was absolutely WRONG to speak on this case, and using the word STUPIDLY caused much damage. I mean calling MEN to gather over beer to straighten out the racist, while leaving behind the woman who thought a crime was being committed just reflects the reality of Obama's political role today.

We ourselves here are working to build on the road to acceptance, and that requires us to look at the attitudes, and the complex systems and prejudices from the media, from institutional government that has done a great amount of harm to women, to minorities, and to those who live in poverty.

We are going to make it, we are rebuilding those old roads, and we will not fade away, or remain silent, because we know this is a real concern for everyone, not just in America but around the WORLD.
