At a rally in Harlem on Saturday, I tried asking Charlie Rangel about his financial disclosure reports, which have not been as detailed as they should be, leading some people to say he should be removed as chairman of the Ways and Means Committee.
“Nah, there’s nothing to discuss,” Rangel told me, before saying he sought guidance from the Ethics Committee on his situation. “I think it’s totally unfair for the New York Post to send investigators to my family’s home and to do that type of thing.”
When another reporter asked if Rangel thought he was “targeted for a reason,” the congressman said he just wanted to defend his integrity. When asked again why he thought he was being targeted, Rangel smiled and tried ending the interview by saying, “Thank you. Thank you.”
When I tried asking him one last question, he looked at me sternly and said, “I said, 'thank you.'”
