Gore Vidal: Essayist Worried About Obama, Regrets Leaving Hillary Clinton
Permalink

Essayist and novelist Gore Vidal is more than a bit worried about President Barack Obamamag-glass_10x10.gif.  He now says he regrets switching his allegiance from Hillary Clintonmag-glass_10x10.gif to now President Obama during the 2008 campaign to secure the Democratic presidential nomination.

His analysis, "He was the most intelligent person we've had in that position for a long time. But he's inexperienced," said Vidal.

The UK Times has more including the notation that "Vidal now believes, as he did originally, Clinton would be the better president."  Read more of the blockbuster interview here.

“Hillary knows more about the world and what to do with the generals. History has proven when the girls get involved, they’re good at it. Elizabeth I knew Raleigh would be a good man to give a ship to.

WTF???

OK, it's nice that Gore Vidal has acknowledged that Hillary would have been better than 0. But she's a woman, not a girl and these are serious, real-life issues, not a Bad News Bears movie where the Little League team sucks until the coach brings in Tatum O'Neal.

Stamp! Stamp! Stamp!   Excellent comment, Jen.

I'm always surprised to hear people talk about how "intellectual" Obama is.  Obviously, he's a smart man, academically speaking. But many of his actions and statements don't reflect a comprehensive understanding of issues - not like Hill.  She grasps the big picture, while having a thorough knowledge of the history and details of a particular issue.  BO apparently, has read a lot of books, knows a lot of theoretical info, but those qualities don't count for much if you don't understand and/or care about issues and problems facing real, average, hard-working Americans.

Oh, and, Gore, baby, we told you geniuses that BO was inexperienced.  I guess being an Ivy League, hyper-educated, elitist doesn't necessarily mean that you can count well.  Obama served only 18 months as a U.S. Senator before announcing his candidacy.  1 & 1/2 years of experience is not a whole lot...dumb ass.

As I've said many many times "too little, too late".

I have never thought of him as intelligent.  Without his teleprompter all he can say is umm and ahh.  I would bet good money he doesn't write his own speeches.

He cannot think on his feet. He has his records sealed. Why? If he is so all fired intelligent, Harvard and all, let me see his records.

I put him on par with Bush. Actually, I think Bush was smarter. At least he could speak off the cuff.
