"Will you ever run for president again? Yes or no?" Curry asked.
"No," Clinton said.
"No?" Curry asked.
"No. No," Clinton replied. "I mean, this is a great job. It is a 24/7 job. And I'm looking forward to retirement at some point."
Clinton will turn 65 in October 2012, putting her at the older end of the range of typical White House seekers. Yet she remains the most viable female potential candidate in either party, after winning 18 million votes, raising more than $220 million and becoming the first woman in history to win a primary.
It remains to be seen whether Clinton's flat denial is enough to permanently put to rest questions about her future. Other political figures have ruled out a campaign only to reverse themselves, as Obama did after declaring in 2006 that he would not run for president in 2008.
Well? What do y'all think?
I am over the "no" but then again, Hillary can't very well say yes or even maybe at this point, especially when she's overseas meeting with world leaders and engaging in important business. I'm hoping a window of opportunity opens up for Hillary in 2012, but of course she can't say that about herself.
I'm glad they acknowledged the 18 million votes and the historical importance of her first primary win-- we didn't see enough of that in the media last year.
If she is not the first woman POTUS I will know there won't be anyone in my lifetime that I believe in to fill that role. How long must women wait....I really do not want to see anyone who has not worked on women's rights issues take that first.
Again, though I'm not sure I believe this negative "no" business. She is so tough. Retire? LOL! Hillary? again LOL!! She will be going when the rest of us have stopped being able to move!
Today, Hillary provided some laughs again. While decrying presidential ambitions Hillary answered interviewer Ann Curry with a Mona Lisa smile that should worry B.O. and M.O., again. But it was in answering questions about Obama’s undeserved, gifted, Nobel prize and whether she herself is relevant that Hillary set us all, um, cackling.
After mouthing platitudes about the Nobel prize, Hillary defended her deft both keep-in-the-public-eye and her smart stay-behind-the-scenes-don’t-get-associated-with-the-myriad-Obama-messes this way: ““I believe in delegating power. I’m not one of those people who feels like I have to have my face in the front of the newspaper or on the TV every moment of the day. It would be irresponsible and negligent were I to say, ‘Oh no, everything must come to me!’”
The Three Musketeers never displayed such panache! With one flick of her rhetorical foil, Hillary gutted the Obama fish, filleted him, and flung him on the grill, to be devoured.
Hillary then garnished the unsavory Obama dead fish with this spice: “Maybe this is a woman’s thing. Maybe I’m totally secure in that I feel absolutely no need to go running around in order for people to see what I’m doing. It’s just the way I am.”
At some point Hillary will retire, but now, Hillary is anything but retiring. The “girl” is having fun – at boob Obama’s expense AND while keeping up a backbreaking schedule of work, work, work.
I didn't see the Mona Lisa smile; I read the interview instead of watching it on TV. But I hope 44 is right. (He often is.)
I know you all hate me for bringing this up, but as I said before, Hillary never wanted the presidency then and she certainly could NEVER run against 'this' standing queen in the office now. Her eye was always on the Secretary of State job (she said it herself "it's a great job" and it is - it certainly would be the job I'd want and Hillary said that she wants to hold onto it). It was ALL smoke and mirrors. We were had. I will always admire Hillary for her hard work as the first lady of a gov. and president and as the senator of NY and her current job, but I really think it's time for us to move on and back someone who really wants to be our president.
I hate to break the news to us all, but just wait until ovomit is in full swing to get another 4 years, Hillary will be his biggest cheerleader, AGAIN. I know too many people who voted for that jack@ss BECAUSE of Hillary. We were all called traitors and Hillary haters when we became PUMA's. I'd like to blame Hillary for that abuse I took and for all the friends and family I lost because I didn't back 'her' choice and for all the hundreds of dollars I sent to her, but I now put the blame on me. I wanted her to be president so badly that I put myself and my family through some really scary stuff. Like staging 5 rallies for her on a busy street corner while my little children are being flipped off and called all kinds of horrible names, like c*nts, d*kes, wh*res and my favorites, "go lick Hillary's p*ssy" and "we want a bro, not a ho". My kids started begging me not to do anymore rallies and to remove Hillary's bumper sticker off our cars.
Hillary would LOVE to be the SOS another 4 years and then retire at 69. She'll still do her good work and make the big bucks going around on the talk circuit and even write another book. It's politics.
I was horribly depressed when I first realized the truth (6/7/08), but I've had 16 months to get over it. My family still feels sorry for me and is angry at Hillary for putting us through this sadness and shock. They need more time to recover. I'm trying to tell them that it's just a dirty business and that we didn't know any better.
I say let's start to brain storm on who we can all get behind.
I have someone in mind who can defiantly win over ovomit. We just have to talk him into it. Jon Voight.
My first choice wasLady Lynn Forester de Rothschild, but their money is a part of our financial troubles. Yikes!
Seems somewhat remarkable that Hillary's even being asked about whether she'll run again - at this stage, IMO. I mean, she works for the savior of the world, a legend in his own mind. He's only been in office 10 short months (seems like a lifetime, doesn't it?), and it seems a little premature at this point, to be looking a 2016 (as we all know, Obama and MSM plan for him to definitely have two presidential terms.) Just seems a little odd to me.
Destiny, I feel your pain. Obviously, there's much we cannot know about the intentions of others, but I reject the idea that Hillary never intended or wanted to win. I believe she wanted to be president because she knew without a shadow of a doubt that she could do the job better than anyone. I also don't believe she would have fought the RBC of the DNC to keep her votes had she not been determined to win. I don't believe she would have lied to her supporters, repeatedly, and taken our hard-earned money to fund her campaign had she not been serious about her run.
I respect your right to believe as you chose, and appreciate your sharing your thoughts, but I disagree. I think that many of us, myself included, personalized the 2008 primary, maybe more than was healthy. The actions of 2008 were devastating. But, my hurt and outrage continue to be directed toward the DNC and the so-called progressive wing of the party who did their level best to ensure that our votes didn't count, and that our candidate was robbed of the nomination.

All I have to say is , it IS a womans perogative to change her mind , and Hillary being the master politician that she is , would know that at this time it would be impolitic to suggest that she might run again and stir that hornets nest at this time . ;)
Destiny, we are far from hating on you. Although I didn't have young children involved in my political actions, I too had relationships that sort of went south, and then they called me sour grapes, and told me to get over it. Piss me off, but I didn't hate, I realized I had to do more educating, particularly on sexism.
One thing I might ask you to do, is write yourself a journal. Turn this experience into something positive in regards to the real education for your children, on those mean streets where name calling, and how they made a spectacle of Hillary. Talk about how offensive this is, and what their role in the future will be to rid our society against the attack on females who want to serve their Mother Country. Don't let your family feel sorry for you, you don't need to respond to them, let them see a new face, a new chapter that you advocate. Move on to a higher level with new tactics. Maybe that is something we can work on together here.
As far as the verdict is in on Hillary retiring, and not wanting to be president, I say wait and see. I must say that Campbell Brown, in one breath went on to say, it's over for Hillary, and quickly says it's Palin. No it isn't over, it's just beginning, because Hillary isn't just a name for us, she's a state of mind!

Destiny I think you are wrong. Hillary ran she wanted to win. She couldnt have been shooting for secretary of state during that process. After she was not nominated she was probably hoping for it, but there was no guarantee that Obama was going to pick her.
I think Hillary had every intention on winning, and I do think to a certain extent she thought she had it in the bag, and underestimated Obama and his disciples. I also think that in the closet hush hush meeting at Senator Fienstein's house, a deal was made that if she did not win, she would throw her support to Obama and bow out gracefully in exchange for the SoS. But I don't think she was lying to any of us.
I really think HC wanted to be president. Why go through so much for the SOS job? I also think she's still in debt. I haven't heard anything about that debt being all paid off.

Another thing freespirit, the next woman could be a community organizer, and I dare them to say she isn't experienced!
I don't know how many times they think a woman is going to wash the same damn wall, but we are NOT going to throw the towel in until a woman is President.
I really think HC wanted to be president. Why go through so much for the SOS job? I also think she's still in debt. I haven't heard anything about that debt being all paid off.
Hillary Clinton wanted to be president. Why? Because she knew she was qualified and could do a good job. She did not run to stroke her ego. She did not go through so much hatred thrown at her for the SOS job. She ran with honest open intentions and did not need to lie and cheat as obama did, because she knew she was the best for the job.
I too went through bot rage. I had to change my phone number. I received death threats. I resolved that problem by putting an obama sign in my car window. Bots left me alone, and I went right on fighting for Hillary, and then McCain.
I do not feel used by Hillary nor taken for a fool. I am not happy that she works for that egomaniac but I trust her to do the right thing for this country.
All I have to say is , it IS a womans perogative to change her mind , and Hillary being the master politician that she is , would know that at this time it would be impolitic to suggest that she might run again and stir that hornets nest at this time . ;)
I concur!
Imagine if she said yes. It would cause a stir. Anyone with any knowledge of politics knows exactly what this means. She said what she needed to say in the moment to maintain calm waters for the time being as she forges ahead.
I don't agree with you, but I am not mad at you. 2008 was like getting hit in the head with a 2x4. I will never get over the underhanded crap that the DNC pulled. I am considering running in the next Michigan Primary on the Democratic Ticket, or maybe just say that I am running so that I can get them to split all of the undecideds and give them to me.
Then I plan on putting busloads of unemployed friends of mine together and roaming the country from caucus state to caucus state and have them bully or confuse citizens into voting for me. I will even have them vote in as many caucuses as I can and hide any data related to those who voted for my opponent.
Then I plan on blackmailing a fellow competitor with his indiscretions so that he drops out of the race and gets behind me.
Oh, and don't forget, I will make all sorts of promises about ending the war and walking on water and free candy all for the sake of getting the crib on 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
I would use the "race card" but I feel it may be all worn out by then.
***all kidding aside, I am glad she is SOS because someone on his cabinet should know what the F*ck they are doing and should actually work for a living. Maybe something will get done. If we leave it up to O, we won't have a pot to piss in by 2012.
I disagree with Destiny but, I don't dislike you for feeling as you do. I can't agree with it. If all she wanted was S.O.S. then she didn't have to fight so hard and could have dropped out when they were all yelling for her to get out of the race. She stuck it out till the bitter end. 2008 was the year democracy died to me on May 31st and I will never forget it or forgive it. I AM glad Hillary is S.O.S. SO many women's issues are getting brought to the light of day because of that. Her trip to the Congo alone was a light in the darkness. She is doing a great job and many, many good things will come from the work she is doing.
I think she will run again. I cast a protest vote last November but, I won't likely do that again ever. I am not going to vote for someone too right wing for my beliefs. It matters very much to me who the first woman potus is. She was the one I believed was best for that position. I still believe that. If she runs again I will be behind her one hundred fifty percent. I can't think of anyone else better suited for the job.
I am really encouraged she's being asked this question right now so early on...over and over. It is also encouraging to see NoLimits.org going up!
I really think HC wanted to be president. Why go through so much for the SOS job? I also think she's still in debt. I haven't heard anything about that debt being all paid off.
Not only is Hillary's debt paid off, she reportedly has a $2 million war chest. What this money is for, we can only speculate.
BTW, HillBuzz has weighed in on whether or not Hillary will run for POTUS again:
No Democrat would ever answer a question on the Today Show like “will you run for president again” with anything but a no.
There is absolutely no advantage to Clinton in saying anything but no at this point.
It is too far before 2012, and much too far before 2016.
Do you even hear any Republicans talking about 2012 or 2016? Nope. When asked about future presidential runs, they say no.
Hillary Clinton will run for and win the presidency at some point in the future. She kept saying she wasn’t running for president in 2004, 2005, 2006, and right up until February or so of 2007.
Because just as it was frustrating for Bob Newhart to stand behind the desk at the Stratford Inn and watch the townsfolk overreact to things and carry on the way they did — it’s frustrating for us to see the same ridiculous article posted over and over again in multiple threads saying Hillary Clinton will never run for president again, when that’s all this woman has been doing since the age of 5.
What does she get out of never running again?
Does she REALLY strike you as someone who wants to retire and do nothing all day?
If she’s always been pegged as an 11th dimensional chess champion whose hobbies are plotting and scheming, then why does she suddenly want to stop now?
She will run again, but the operative question is when.
I also recall at one point, Hillary said she wouldn't accept a position in the Obama administration because she loved her job as Senator from NY. Obviously, she changed her mind on that one.
Another thing freespirit, the next woman could be a community organizer, and I dare them to say she isn't experienced!
I don't know how many times they think a woman is going to wash the same damn wall, but we are NOT going to throw the towel in until a woman is President.
I so agree, B4112. No way are we giving up. Its' way past time for a woman potus. The fact that we're still having to fight like hell for every step forward - in America - in the 21st century- is amazing.
Destiny, on this forum, we not only allow, but encourage healthy debate and respectful disagreement. We learn from those whose views differ from our own. So, please don't think you are hated. What I read in your post is pain, disappointment, and anger. We all have strong emotions about 2008. I plan to direct this emotional energy toward helping defeat any Dem in office at the time of the subversion of democracy perpetrated by the DNC and MSM . I believe the only way we can discourage the kind of strong-arming they did of party members in the future is to make them pay.
And frankly, at this point, I don't think it really matters whether Reps or Dems are in office. Officials of neither party have worked to help this country. Once in office, the only goal becomes staying in office - by whatever means necessary. We need patriots in office now, worse at than almost any other time in the history of the country imo, and I don't think we have many real patriots in Washington at this time.
We also need national media to report the news - not campaign either FoR or AGAINST our government officials and political candidates. Currently, we do not have such a media system.
IMO there's too much work to do to waste tme or emotional energy hating anyone. .

However, this country needs her, and eventually, whether it is 2012 or 2016, I plan on attending the celebration of her as our first female President, and likely one of the best Presidents this country has ever seen.
"Hillary, now more than ever."
That is my motto and slogan. I will have that slogan embroidered on clothing, and put onto stickers. I won't believe we won't have her until 2016 goes by without her.

Hrc2012, I was thinking along the same lines as you. Hillary is someone who puts country first. And come 2012 more likely 2016, she will see the landscape and decide. I hope to see that inaugural too.. Book me an advance ticket!!
I refuse to go through the roller coaster of thinking she will never run again! Let me keep that spirit alive... Look at so many politicians who have said "no" and then run. Time and circumstances change.
I am reminded of Hillary's answer to people's question in India about US not having a female president.

Good to know. I haven't seen any news on that, but I hadn't been looking.
Well, we'll see what she does. Only time will tell. I think when she ran in 2008 she not only wanted to win but expected to win. She never could have known the force moving in Oasshat's direction and she never could have known the force that was absolutely moving AGAINST her. Because, obvisouly this country would elect a nobody, someone who never accomplished anything, someone with absolutely no experience before they would elect a woman. The DNC's actions were definitely aimed directly at her but more importantly they wanted to ensure a woman STILL didn't make it. They knew precisely what they were doing. Unfortunately, she had no idea how much they hate women. It became patently clear later on but by then it was too late.
For me....there is really only one way I become involved in a political campaign again - actually two ways. If by some bizarre happenstance of fate there was a Clinton-Palin ticket or if Bill Clinton could run again. That is the ONLY way I will jump in that horrible, disgusting, vile arena again. I think the Clinton-Palin ticket would be fantastic. I love both women and what they stand for. Obviously for very different things but I think they could work together in a way no administration has and I think it would be successful. And of course, if the Big Dog could run again I'd work my ass of for him. His success stands on it's own merit.
yes, I have read in a published article and in commentaries in the blogosphere that Hillary Clinton is completely debt-free and has a couple of million in her campaign funds now.. and has great positive ratings building up... and still has a small campaign staff in an office very close to Pennsylvania avenue and Foggy Bottom. In other words, she is campaign ready, should she decide to run.
SugnSpicesMom, I encourage you to stay involved.. to whatever extent you can. Our democracy is suffering and it requires good citizenship.. for us to take charge as "we the people" as our system was always intended to be. At present, the corporation-driven media has taken over the MSM; the so called fact-checkers are also lined up with private interests (yes, non-profit = tax-exempt private company) and the editorialists such as FNC who we have often turned to are also extreme commentators trying to balance the MSM. All in all, I have begun to frantically search the Internet for real news in the commentary sections below the news. I hope you do stay involved and engaged.. because it is concerned citizens like us who will eventually make some difference to what legacy we pass along to our future.

Small correction... If you look at today's thread about Hillary beating Obama in the Gallup poll, you'll see where I quoted an article that states she has a $3 million war chest, not $2 million as I stated previously. Who knows? Maybe she has raised an extra million bucks in the month or so since I heard about the $2 million?
