Clinton criticizes Bush handling of Afghan conflict
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Friday that President Bush's administration was "unrealistic" in its dealings with the war in Afghanistan.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton says the Bush administration was unrealistic in its dealings with Afghanistan.
Clinton told CNN the Bush administration was unrealistic both in terms of the number of U.S. soldiers it committed to the conflict and in its relationship with certain Afghan political leaders.
The war was "under resourced" since its start in 2001, she said, and she indicated the Bush administration's attention was improperly shifted to Iraq.
Clinton also said Friday that she is "very optimistic" a decent health care reform package will be enacted. She refused, however, to offer any opinion regarding the specifics of what should go into such a package.
"I have a different role now" than she did when she took the lead in attempting to craft a health care plan during her husband President Clinton's administration, she told CNN. "I'm going to cheer from the sidelines."

I. e., "o-moron is in charge now. Go ask him!"

IMO, she is totally right about Bush. The focus should have remained on Afghanistan. Having said that, it's getting old - hearing about what Bush did. Obviously, there is much to straightened out in terms of Iraq and Afghanistan. History will prove that Bush blew it. But, for now, when campaigning, Obama had an answer for everything. He knew how to handle Afghanistan, Iraq, Gitmo... every issue would be magically resolved. After all, he was The One, and Yes He Could. This needs to fall at his feet, now. And, imo, Hillary is in a very precarious position when it comes to the war. She and Gates are advocating for installing about 40,000 troops, according to one article I read. Some say this is just enough to keep the conflict alive, not enough to resolve it.
My fear is that she's going to be blamed for whatever problems ensue, regardless of what O decides to do about troop numbers.

Wonders outloud why the media asks the Secretary of State about Health Care reform when that has nothing to do with her job. I am glad she advoided answering that question.
