The Martha Coakley campaign goes all-in nationalizing the race, airing a TV spot featuring Obama that’s heavy on the populism, with the President hailing the fights she’s waged for working families and her efforts to take on Wall Street:
The spot is all positive, with no reference to Scott Brown. “Martha knows the struggles Massachusetts working families face, because she’s lived those struggles,” Obama says. “As Attorney General she took on Wall Street and recovered millions for Massachusetts taxpayers. She went after big insurance companies and took on predatory lenders. That’s what Martha Coakley’s about.”
A Coakley campaign source insists the latest internal polling shows attacks on Brown as a “shill for Wall Street” are resonating and pushing up Brown’s negatives, which perhaps explains the heavy populist emphasis of the Obama spot.
Still, the source concedes that the race is a toss up: The internals say she leads 48-46. (Emphasis added)
