As if Gov. Paterson needed another headache right now, it looks like he may have killed Camelot.
Not that he did it on purpose, mind you: When Paterson passed over Caroline Kennedy in favor of then-Rep. Kirsten "Tweety Bird" Gillibrand to fill Hillary Clinton's Senate seat last year, two other members of the famed political clan still held seats in Congress.
Back then, liberal lion Ted Kennedy yet roared as the senior senator from Massachusetts, while his son, Patrick, represented Rhode Island in the House.
But Ted passed away in August -- and, just yesterday, Patrick announced that he would not be seeking re-election to the office he's held since 1995.
Thus, next January will almost certainly mark the first time in 64 years (barring a brief interlude after Ted's brother John was elected president) that the US Congress does not include a descendant of Joseph and Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy.

Caroline would have extended the dynasty for who-knows-how-long.
Of course, 64 years is a long time for one family to hold power.
Paterson might ponder his role as the instrument of fate.
Dont give all the credit to Dave Paterson, now! How about Patrick Kennedy's dinging of Scott Brown victory as a "joke"? It was not the kind of foo-foo you expect from a power center/dynasty's sole rep. He failed to carry the water for the rest of them... who were already fading out. Hmmm... Perhaps Ted Kennedy knew he needed Caroline Kennedy to rescue the dynasty. Yeah, Dave may have some thinking to do. Perhaps so does Caroline!! LOL.
