Nearly all liberals, as well as a few misguided conservatives, have sought to dismiss the "birther" movement as the product of right-wing retards barking up the wrong tree.
However, the entire issue of Barack Obama's eligibilty was first brought to the fore by lawyers acting on behalf of Hillary Rodham Clinton in 2008.
Specifically, Phil J. Berg, hardly a member of any vast right wing conspiracy, was an ardent supporter of Hillary Rodham Clinton, and her candiacy for the presidency.
Notwithstanding his liberal pedigree, Phil J. Berg was hot on the trail of one Barack Obama, because Berg wished to protect the American people from electing a non-citizen to the most powerful office in the world.
In August 2008, before Obama was officially nominated by the Democrat party, Mr. Berg filed a legal challenge to Obama's constitutional eligibility to occupy the Oval Office.
Next, the article sums up Berg's 2008. It ends with this:
There you go! The inconvenient truth is as follows: Hillary Clinton is the mother of all birthers!
I think this article is misleading, as it implies that Berg was working for Hillary in an official capacity, when there's no evidence to support this. But the author is correct that the 'birther' movement originated on the left, not the right.

I agree, Jen. I remember when Berg began his effort to find out the truth about Obama's citizenship. But, it was never stated, or even indicated that the idea for this came from Hillary. So, MSM had better not try to use this little tidbit in yet another smear campaign against her.

The larger question is-- why are they bringing this up now? What purpose does it serve? It's been almost two years.
Exactly! They know she has great (and improving) ratings. Even (former) die-hard Obama supporters favor her. She says she will not run for 2012 (and she is very unlikely to) but they see his rating and wonder. More threatened are probably Republicans who see that if she is on the 2012 ballot, there is really not much of a chance for win.

The Birther Movement was started by the blog "Texas Darlin" then it exploded. The Primary wasn't even over when this started. We all know Hillary supporters started this but it was people independent of Hillary. Hillary cannot and should not be blamed for what her supporters do outside of the campaign. I may blog for Hillary but I am not paid by her nor does she guide my words. This is silly and yes Jen they are trying to bame Hillary for poor poor Barack's problems. It was her supporters and yes Birthers are welcome here although I may think there is nothing to it. I just happen to believe that anyone chosing to enter the GE or Primary should have to show their BC since the constitution insists POTUs be born in the USA
