WASHINGTON -- Delaware Republicans call Senate hopeful Christine O'Donnell a liar who "could not be elected dog catcher" in a fierce attack that underscores GOP fears of the tea party-backed candidate knocking off top recruit Rep. Mike Castle and winning the nomination.
Stunned by tea partier Joe Miller's upset of Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski, Republicans are taking no chances in Delaware, which holds its primary Sept. 14. The party sees Castle, the state's lone congressman since 1993, as the best candidate for the seat long held by Vice President Joe Biden.
Looks like the GOP has quite conveniently cornered the Tea Party into becoming the activist corner of GOP. Now the Republican party is able to reframe the Tea Party endorsed candidate or NOT, depending on whether they are in Red State or in Blue State.
The moderates of both sides need to join forces with centrists and form a third party and let these extremes go off and bang their head on the far ends of the room. Otherwise, we will always muddy the message of the parties and combine them with extreme voices. That never helps moderate candidates as we saw in the case of Lisa Murkowski. Sen.Murkowski clearly need not have lost the primary run but for lack of support from the Republican party leadership that caved in to Tea Party activism and Tea party leaders such as SP.
We clearly need more moderates (such as Lisa Murkowski) to WIN!!!!!
Let's be supportive of Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe and any other GOP senator who shows moderate voting record on social matters, as also Senators from the left who show fiscal responsibility.
